Principles of Mind-Body Integration

Therapeutic Techniques for Wholeness
August 17 - 21, 2009, Whitehorse, YT

REPORT

The Whitehorse experience was amazingly rich. I had the opportunity to learn and grow both personally and professionally. I believe that everyone there also did so in their own way. Anodea provided yet another remarkable experience of the relationship between mind, body and living experience. Because there is so much to be learned about the human process I found it wonderful to be taking the program a second time as an assistant. Knowing and using the principles since 2004 gave me a platform from which to plunge significantly deeper into the subtleties of the work.

We began by covering the energy dynamics of the human body: grounding, charge, discharge, pulsation and the mind/body link. We went on to study character structure, the way in which our fundamental beliefs shape our bodies, and the strengths and weaknesses these create. This is a major segment of the program and students spent time both learning the theory and studying themselves and each others structures in fun creative ways. Anodea then presented Peter Levine's system of working with trauma and gave a very poignant demonstration, working with a volunteer. As the participants understanding grew, there were opportunities for them to work with each other, exploring patterns of charge/discharge, blocks, symptoms and trauma. Finally, we looked at more deeply at symptoms and there possible meanings and completed with a review and synthesis of all the learning.

On a personal level, I got a chance to facilitate the partner work as a teacher, rather than my more usual role as being the facilitator of a piece of work – I found this a delightful co-creative process. I also learned more about the complex relationships between different character structures within the same person, how these evolve and how they serve the individual. I've sharpened my skills at "tracking" charge, following it and evoking meaningful experiences with it. More than a refresher, this program established me at a notably higher level of competency. In addition to all this I got to spend time with my much admired teacher and good friend Anodea. As well as being a lovely re-connection it also gave us a chance to talk some business, regarding my certification and relationship to Sacred Centers. One of the results of this is that I have been given permission to teach Anodea's system and method to others.

It has been my intention that the advanced levels of the Heartwisdom Program would centre around Anodea's elegant model of human experience. Therefore, I'm delighted to be able to offer this work in the form of a four workshop series (Level 3) beginning in September. For further information on this please see the 2009 – 2010 Program page HERE.

Principles of Mind-Body Integration

Therapeutic Techniques for Wholeness

Principles of Mind-Body Integration is one of the key programs that Sacred Centers offers and it teaches the essential core material of Anodea's unique therapeutic synthesis. On this page, I'm offering a more personal perspective on this workshop, Anodea and her system. For the official workshop page click HERE.

For me, the system that Anodea has developed and offers through Sacred Centers is the most elegant and integrated body of work on human health and wholeness that I've seen. Not only has she blended the principles of Eastern and Western thought, as described in her pivotal book, "Eastern Body, Western Mind," but she has also set it within a global, spiritual, and evolutionary context. In short, it hangs together and gives a clear template for understanding the human experience in a unified holistic way.

The content of this particular workshop is essential material for any body-worker or experiential therapist to have at hand. Further it offers anyone on the path of personal and spiritual development invaluable tools for understanding themselves, others and the complexities of human relationships. These principles certainly inform and are essential in my life, private practice and the HeartWisdom Program. I recommend this program without reservation of any kind. You'll grow, and you'll love it!

If you just can't make this workshop, and you haven't already done so, please consider reading these two extremely important books by Anodea:
"Eastern Body, Western Mind"
"Waking the Global Heart"
